It appears the focus of the Senate over the next week will be House Resolution 1 (HR 1) or 'The For The People Act'. If you are unfamiliar with the details of the bill this article at The Hill can get you up to speed. The synopsis is that the bill attempts to federally mandate states to enforce the lack and insecure voting rules that were the cause of so many problems during the 2020 election.
If HR 1 passes then the federal government will mandate each state to allow mail-in voting for any reason, disallow voter id, extend voting deadlines for mail-in ballots beyond election day, and all of the other questionable practices that we saw compromise our election in 2020. In short, it is a travesty against democracy and it must be stopped.
Hopefully this legislation will fail in the Senate. I urge you to contact your representatives and tell them not to strip your state of the Constitutionally granted right to determine your own election laws. If this bill does pass in to law it will be up to the State Legislatures and Attorney Generals to sue the federal government for constitutional overreach.
If the Supreme Court will not hear those cases, as they have refused to hear so many cases in the last several months, then it will be up to each State to simply refuse to adhere to an unconstitutional law and disregard the mandates. We must refuse continued centralization of power with the federal government, especially when it comes to the process of electing those that are supposed to serve our interests in that government.
I hope you will join me in speaking out about this bill so we can stop it in its tracks before it passes in to law.
